‘It don’t mean a thing, if it ain’t got that Cuban swing!’
Personal Info: Born in Sarajevo ( Bosnia and Herzegovina) it very soon became clear that Neira would develop a passion for dance and rhythm. Initially fascinated by Gipsy Balkan beats, it was at the age of seventeen that she became introduced to the sounds of Compay Segundo’s ‘ Chan Chan’. Determined to understand what this heartwarming voice was singing, studying Spanish Language and Culture became the first step… the next would follow shortly: the decision to take a first salsa lesson.
Dancing experience and styles: ‘Since the very first time I started dancing salsa, I have loved the rhythm, the passion it holds and the vibrancy. But it wasn’t until the first time I danced salsa Cuban style that I fell in love.’ Neira started taking lessons in L.A. style with several teachers from Extremos in Amsterdam. 2 years later, she travelled to Cuba to participate in salsa casino, rueda and afro-Cuban classes. Consequently, the already existing passion towards anything Cuban became even stronger and continues to exist in present time.
Teaching style: Always full of energy, and with great passion for Latin American music and rhythms, it is her main objective to make students leave the classroom with a smile on their face, while at the same time stressing the technical components.
